Oh Yeah, Lambs!

I finally got some updated photos of the lambs--seems like they are grown already. Here is the 2010 Crew---all eight of them!

Beautiful Fairlight Stella
(Jackdaw x Willow)--musket flecket
She is staying

Rosemary's boys (by Jackdaw)--the glue brothers (as in stick like...)
They will be staying (as wethers)

Here is the bigger boy--he is a black and white yuglet

Here is the littler turkey--he is a moorit and white yuglet flecket

Jasper--grey/white flecket
(Jeffery x Lark)
He and his mom will be going to their new home next Friday

Black and White smirslet/flecket/sokket
(Jackdaw x Luna)
Big solid boy will be going with his sister (as a wether) to his new home in June

Moorit Ewe Lamb
(Jackdaw x Luna)
Nice little ewe, will be going with her brother above to new home in June

Ultra cute Grey soon to be wether
(Jeffery x Chickie)

(Enlarged to reveal the big B. (as in Brat) keeping a close eye on things)

Solid Black twin to above ram--he is usually so close I can't take a picture. He and his brother will be listed for-sale soon.

Colors of spring....

I have to smile at all the names you mention in your descriptions. Had no idea there were so many color 'patterns' is it? Isn't that mottled wool hard to work with when coloring it?

What a bunch of cuties. I'd be interested to know, also, how you work with that colored wool.

They are gorgeous! I love the different colors. A lot of spinners love spinning the multi-colors together. It's especially cool to dye black and light mixed wool, since the light will pick up the color... makes awesome yarn!

Tammy, I notice you are wethering most of the boys this year. Just not the right sire material in there or are you preparing so you don't get stuck with a big crew of hot headed rams? :)

Sounds like you've been very successful at lining up new homes for some sheep -- congrats! I have someone who wants ONE of the boys as a wether; that leaves two lambs I'm watching as potential flock sires, another wether candidate and his dam, and Braveheart. Would love to get a poll-carrying kat ewe lamb from Juliann, but have got to move some first....

Since you've named one Stella, which is my birth name! aka Star, I shall be keeping a very close eye on it to see how it's getting one. Well done for bringing those 8 adorable lambs into the world, with help from the sheep, of course.
Now give yourself a treat?
Blessings, Star

They are all adorable but my favorite is Stella. It seems like they get big so fast, just like kids I guess. Enjoy them....I miss watching the lamb races!

Marnie,
Shetland sheep have a ridecoulous amount of colors and patterns, and about as much disagreement about what constitues what as well..... As someone mentioned the wool is either used in 'natural' colors or overdyed for a two tone look. If blended together before using or dying the colors would be more a even tone.
Thanks Joanna, he is a cutie--the way he is marked just makes him look like a doll. I need to give him a real name.
Louise--check above answer and also some thoughts in the other comments.
Kim, thanks for wool comment, you explained it better than I! As for the wethers--I actually have a waiting list for wethers this year so decided to go that route. I'm not equipped to 'grow out' rams, and as you know, the eternal 'will the horns turn out' question eats at me. Only in the past few years have I offered a few rams for sale. Before that it was wethers.
Michelle, I don't have many to sell this year, and as I mentioned to Kim, I have a waiting list of people wanting wethers this year, so decided to go that route. It's easier all around for me. There are a couple that would most likely grow into nice rams (Jasper and the black and white flecket), but both are sold as wethers. The others have some tail or hock issues or are just too darn friendly. I only sold one adult ewe this year and the little ewe lamb. Sales are pretty good so far. Thanks Vicki and Christine!
Star--well cool! :-) I like the name Stella and since Willow's other daughter is named Luna, thought I would go with the 'sky' conotations.
Sheila, Stella is a cocky little thing and I'm working hard at making sure she is friendly (her mom's not!)

What a beautiful crop of lambs you have this year, Tammy! Good for you! I find I will have to decide who is staying and who is going this year myself. Too many good-lookers this year.

Good onya mate!
