Like a walk through the country side living on a small farm is full of daily surprises, sometimes wonderful and amazing, and other times puzzling and sad. I hope you will walk with me as I live out my dream of living on this tiny farm. You will come to know the dogs, cats, Shetland sheep and chickens that make up this farm and what goes into keeping them happy and healthy. Come and join the journey with me.

Hoorah! I'm happy for you and the critters. (We have a gray day here, so far.)

That rooster certainly looks happy and in fine feather too, may I add - now that his feathers have dried out a bit. I wonder how many little chicks he has sired lately?
I have your story of Boone still on my noticeboard. I say 'good- morning' to him every morning, just to keep him in mind.
Blessings, Star

Mr Rooster SURE looks better than he did in your post on March 20th!

We're having our very first March without snow in recorded history in SE MN and W Central WI!

Wishing you LOTS of sunshine...

What a spiffy looking gentleman this guy is!
We lost our bantam Ameraucana roo, Slick, earlier this month. I have found myself missing that "crowing" around here as Slick not only kept all the girls very happy, but warned me of folks walking by or the hawks hunting above.
Thanks. :)
(I hope all the critters are doing better and this week gives you a breather)

Vicki,we've had a patch of fair weather this week. The mud is still pretty deep, but the grass sure is greening up.
I'll try Shula! It's been warm enough at night to do barn checks sans coat.
Star, well, we will probably never know since I don't have any setting hens--they just go straight to the table. ;-0 He is getting rather old at 7 so not sure how many fertile eggs he would manage anyway. Wow, Star I'm impressed that you do that with Boone. He is a good dog and deserves all good thoughts sent his way.
Thanks Nancy, looks like you've had some beautiful weather out your way too.
Kathy, this roo has been a gem. He is seven + but never has had an aggressive issues towards me. There has been an occasional hen he has disliked immensely but for the most part he is a gentleman. He also doesn't crow excessively--just enough to let you know he is around. Sorry about Slick....
Thanks AJ! He was in a batch of 'straight run hens'. ;-)
