Like a walk through the country side living on a small farm is full of daily surprises, sometimes wonderful and amazing, and other times puzzling and sad. I hope you will walk with me as I live out my dream of living on this tiny farm. You will come to know the dogs, cats, Shetland sheep and chickens that make up this farm and what goes into keeping them happy and healthy. Come and join the journey with me.

Send Help...And Lots of Food....

...This seems to be Butterfly's plea these days...

To say that motherhood is wearing heavily on her shoulders would be an understatement. Don't tell, but I think she is borderline abusive to her kits! Yep. The little mites will run up to her when they are all out playing and she will snatch them, kick them, bite them on the head..then give them a lick and a promise. Then she gazes off into the past (or future) while the little kitty veeery quietly tries to escape her clutches and then slinks off. Of course when she is ready for them to nurse she is all sweet goo-goo love to them. The minute it's over though, she is up on the highest shelf in the condo. I think we will soon have weaned kittens....

I can't say I blame her...they can be an obnoxious little bunch at feeding time. They are now eating solids quite heartily and at times ferociously. And they play..and play...and play. Still though...their little round innocent faces and pudgy little bodies are like a magnet. So sweet.

Before I just thought I was going through allot of cat food and kitty litter....Silly me. But I must admit...I've enjoyed these little rascals--too much I think...

And here they are at 5 1/2 weeks old.....

Black Male---Adventure is his game even though he has no name...

Verity--Black Female
(Oh my goodness..what is with those giant eyes??)

Noah--Orange Male

Tempe---Torti Female

Gabriel--Orange & White Male

Calico Female

"Call" names only, people...I'm not keepin' 'em all. Nope.... just maybe that little black male and maybe Verity and....;-)

The End!

Yeah, motherhood is the same across species. Everyone else can oh and ah over how CUTE your offspring is, but YOU'RE the one who has to put up with the near-constant demands and cries and hanging-on. Let me tell you, it gets OLD! (Sympathizing a bit here with Butterfly at the end of a hard week of parenting....)

I remember when I was weaning my second child, thinking that I understood how cats in the same situation felt. Sometimes I just wanted to growl and hiss.

Yep, cats are like potato chips...you just can't have one:) You should probably keep all the black ones...I mean Halloween is next month so you want to keep them safe and they would look really cute next to pumpkins.....

Hi, Tammy!
Isn't that little black male looking like your own "Rascal"???? :) And I would take Noah in a heartbeat if I didn't think I'd be sleeping in the barn if we got another cat here. 7 is about all I can handle. We had the most wonderful orange cat years ago and now I miss orange cats. I guess my cat tend to run like the sheep - black, grey, etc.
I hear you about the back business. That's why we had to install a tall gate into the bedroom. Backs and cats sometimes don't go together very well, although Daisy and Mooch know how to get over the gate and love to burrow under the blankets.
I love the photos!

Oh they are all very cute. I like the little black girl with the huge blue eyes. Super pretty. We have a new baby animal here. Hopefully it lives and in a few days I might blog about it if it does. Well done with the kittens.

Yes, I do feel for Butterfly at times, but not too much.. ha.. I don't get to go home and leave them to her (while she lays on the topmost shelf of the condo..far far away from the little furballs). I have to clean out the massive amounts of poops, clean dishes, scoop food, clean cages, keep an eye on them when they are out playing (cause she sure won't...she is too busy trying to sneak around Boone to get in the yard), pay for the food, health care etc etc. However..lest I sound like it's been a bad burden...I have to say, I've enjoyed these little kittens tremendously, despite all the extra things to do. Just wish I had some good homes lined up for some of them. Kathy, that is funny that your cat shades run the same as the sheep. :-) Siamese and Black cats are my favorites, but it's hard not to love any of the little squishy things. Noah is going to make a fine kitty. Almost all of them crave 'people time'.
