Like a walk through the country side living on a small farm is full of daily surprises, sometimes wonderful and amazing, and other times puzzling and sad. I hope you will walk with me as I live out my dream of living on this tiny farm. You will come to know the dogs, cats, Shetland sheep and chickens that make up this farm and what goes into keeping them happy and healthy. Come and join the journey with me.

Will They Turn?

Orion's turning out to be a lovely little ramling. But, oh my, can those horns possibly turn in time? They actually look a little better than they did even a week ago, but still, it is going to be close, I think. His grand sire's horns made the curve straight to the front, so I was hoping that would be the case with Orion. However, even though sire and grand sire's have large sweeping horns, he seems to have a smaller, 'tea-cup' style, instead. Oh well. Only time will tell, whether they are going to clear or not. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

His fleece is buttery soft and begs to be touched, even though he objects to that! As you can tell, his musket roots are showing. His first fleece will be gorgeous.

THAT's why I hate spiral horns! I've got a couple of boys that I was really afraid I was going to have to butcher but they cleared. I'll take the wide, front sweeping horns any day! Of course, you can't really tell until they start to curl which way they'll curl...

Good Luck!

This little guy surpises me a little, because his immediate sire and grandsires have good horns, although Griffen's are the spiral. One of his grandsire's horns started out pathetic--little gnarly looking things, but now are these huge, open, wide sweeping, front curled things. All those genetics that lurk under the surface, I guess....

Isn't it a bugger that we have to wait to tell about these things? I have wethered a couple of boys due to that.
I will definitely be keeping my fingers, toes, eyes, etc. crossed for you that they clear!
