Thanks for the tip about the bread, Sara. I'll try that too. The sheep love bread anyway...And as my sis said--it works well for me too;-) Vicki--I tell myself something similar to that when 'things' start falling apart all at once (like vehicles, appliances etc etc.)--if I didn't have to fix them, I wouldn't have them....Michelle--have you tried alfalfa pellets or cubes on Inky? Just wondering what others experiences have been. Have started Blue on Alfalfa cubes but I have to crush them up....I know that all this rich feed is probably going to cause problems later...but right now there may not be a later for him, so I have to try. Kathy--Blue is up and going, just periodically seems to fall and can't get up (haven't seen this this week though). He seems alert and no motor functions seem impaired. AJ--some sheep live up to 14 or 15, but I think that 9 is probably pretty old for a Merino ram. He had a hard start in life as well, so that may be catching up to him. Hi Kim, thanks for stopping by and commenting! Love the picture of the horse there.
Tammy
TammyTammyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02131066591477169851noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28884256.post-46965303553558622122010-02-17T15:07:02.833-08:002010-02-17T15:07:02.833-08:00Wow, what a scare, I'm glad you're okay!Wow, what a scare, I'm glad you're okay!Laneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09686045808005529102noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28884256.post-83701377876599260642010-02-16T06:48:53.608-08:002010-02-16T06:48:53.608-08:00What a scary day. !!!

How about alfalfa? Or a senior grain? I take it nine is old for a sheep? We have an ancient Fainting Goat buck who is for sure 12 years old, maybe older.AJ-OAKShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10835033049330507303noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28884256.post-23896928934245124892010-02-14T19:06:21.513-08:002010-02-14T19:06:21.513-08:00Clearly, angels have their hands surrounding you, ...Clearly, angels have their hands surrounding you, Tammy. That kind of day makes you stop and think...or hit the bourbon. :)

I do hope Blue is ok. It could be many things: the hard weather, being stupid or unlucky, or age catching up with him. In that kind of weather, all animals under stress should have more eats - hay is great for generation of heat but when they are his age you have to get whatever you can in him. If he's inside and can't stay upright, you may want to assess him for CNS impairment or something like a stroke.
Keeping you in my thoughts...Kathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16933105773412843275noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28884256.post-81406785261432553072010-02-14T18:04:53.269-08:002010-02-14T18:04:53.269-08:00Well, I am glad to hear you got out of that spin c...Well, I am glad to hear you got out of that spin cycle all in one piece! The weather this winter has definitely taken its toll on the animals. I had the same problem with the wether I just lost; I could not get the weight on him, regardless of what I did. I wish you luck with him. Inky is a hard keeper; I give her twice daily grain and a month or so ago started adding extruded soybean for the extra fat and calories, but have noticed no difference....Michellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01550786937196525098noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28884256.post-16792384005027126972010-02-14T07:25:46.032-08:002010-02-14T07:25:46.032-08:00Oh, Tammy, I know that helpless feeling on slick r...Oh, Tammy, I know that helpless feeling on slick roads with steep dropoff. So glad it turned out okay and that an angel appeared to help you.

Re Blue -- this weather is hard on all the critters and the old ones especially. The down side of keeping animal is, as an old farmer once told us, 'Them as has, can lose.' It is so deep probably a quarter of a mile deep (am I exaggerating?) and tree lined and did I say deep deep deep that it would have been days before we found you. Do not use the spin cycle again, please.

The bread suggestion sounds really good for Blue. It works for me.T. They got it from the day old bakery. I have not had to try it yet, but have filed it away for Crazy Esther with no front teeth. I do know that GL stole some left over biscuits from the chickens the other day, so I guess they like it.
